Urbitandem has been created to gather perceptions on the city and the relations we develop with it. Having the urban life as the main subject, we will be approaching some of the themes which compose it, such as: urbanism and architecture, urban management, public policies, participatory process, housing, mobility, financing, environment, heritage and many others.

BIO: Maria Teresa Diniz


Architect and urban planner graduated from Instituto Izabela Hendrix in Belo Horizonte (2002), she has MSc in Geography from Université Panthéon-Sorbonne (2004), specializing in environmental studies (DEA HETRE - Hommes, Espaces, Temps, Ressources et Environnement). 

Technical Adviser at the Housing Department in São Paulo – Sehab between 2005 and 2012, she has integrated the team which conquered various awards during that period, such as: UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award 2012, Prêmio João Batista Vilanova Artigas IAB 2012, Prix d’Excellence Awards 2010 - Fiabci Internacional, Master Imobiliário 2009 - Fiabci Brasil and Secovi.

She has coordinated the Design Team at Sehab leading a team of experts who have developed the design guidelines for slum upgrading and social housing projects, comprising urbanism, water, sewage and drainage networks, geotechnical risk areas, earthworks, paving and buildings. The Renova SP Design Competition was also an activity she coordinated, commissioning architecture offices to develop design for 200 precarious settlements. She has also occupied the position of Coordinator of Paraisópolis Slum Upgrading and Land-tenure Regularization Program. This project has received a number of awards, such as: first place in the Latin American phase (2011) and Silver Medal (2012) from Global Holcim Awards for the Music School in Grotão; Selo Casa Azul CEF Gold Category (2012), and first place in the international Social Housing and Urban Development contest from Bienal Panamericana de Arquitetura de Quito (2010).

She has been a member at Municipal Housing Council, Climage Change and Eco-Economy Committee, Conservancy and Rational Use of Water Municipal Program and Social Housing Evaluation Committee. Experienced in water management and environmental legislation compilation and review, she was part of the team which prepared the Municipal Sanitation Program as well as the concession contract with the water and sewage company, Sabesp (2010).

Fluent in English, French and Spanish, she has been responsible for many international partnerships and studios with foreign universities such as the 4th IABR, Harvard, Columbia and ETH Zurich. Lecturer at national and international events, highlighting the C40 Summit in Sao Paulo, the 5th and 6th editions of the World Urban Forum, the Metropolis Nonformal - Anticipation simposium from UN-Habitat and TEDxFMUSP - Sanus urben, sanus civis.  

Organizer and author of various publications and articles, she has been executive coordinator during three years of USP Cidades, a center for research, development and dissemination of innovative solutions for urban management. She is a professor at the Certificate Course “City Planning Management” at the University of Sao Paulo (USP).
Currently, she occupies the position of senior architect at Concremat, assisting the Planning and Design Department at CDHU.
